| Homeschoolers For Life March 2009 Newsletter The clouds have parted, the battle lines have been drawn, and if there ever was a question about Barak Obama’s disrespect for his fellow citizens, that question has been clearly answered. Our calling is now perfectly clear: Obama is the most extreme proponent of the culture of death agenda of all our history, and all of us must oppose his efforts like never before. If you ever were a “couch potato pro-lifer,” it’s time to get off the couch! In less than two months, the Obama administration has reversed every pro-life policy it possibly could, and is planning even more damage. This bill would make invalid all state restrictions on abortion and federally mandate “choice” including the Partial Birth Abortion Ban, parental notification laws, etc. Everything! So what’s a person of conscience to do? Become involved by writing letters to the editor of your local newspaper, and your representatives at the State and Federal level to either express your indignation or give them your wholehearted thanks when they support pro-life legislation. Another way we can help is by helping pro-life groups with our time, talent, and yes, dollars. Which brings me to my next topic: Are the organizations you are supporting good stewards of your money? Are they actually achieving anything? Quite often, so called non-profit organizations are really all about the profit! This is true in the whole field of non-profits, and pro-life organizations, sadly, are not exempt. Some are so tied to a political party, that they’ll carry water for them and fundraise millions of dollars, whether the party is actually promoting the pro-life cause or not. How many of us have voted Republican year after year because it is, supposedly, the “pro-life” party, and what has it actually achieved? The occasional parental notification bill? Oh, please! In these times of financial insecurity, I suggest you give to people you know such as your local crisis pregnancy center that is actually doing good work and most likely operating on a wing and a prayer. Investigate organizations you support at www.guidestar.com, and see whether they are actually worthy of your support. This website rates non-profits and allows you access to their tax forms, just search for Form 990. Are the members of the board of directors of your favorite non-profit making six figure salaries just for lending their name to the charity’s letter head? Form 990 will tell you. Personhood efforts are good causes. They tend to be truly grassroots and therefore poor. Most of the big pro-life organizations don’t support them, and they really need our help. Check out Personhood USA for a truly grassroots organization. Finally, North Dakota is currently pursuing a personhood amendment. The legislature will vote on it on March 16th, and they really need some help with phone calls. Anyone can help, you don’t need to be from North Dakota.
